ANNOUNCING DR. SONIA BATRA: OUR NEW PHYSICIAN

We are pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Sonia Batra to the Laser Institute for Dermatology and European Skin Care.

A native of Southern California, Dr. Batra ventured east for undergraduate studies at Harvard University after graduating Valedictorian of Palisades High School. While in attendance at Harvard, she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Batra graduated early from Harvard in three years and was selected from California as the youngest Rhodes Scholar. She graduated with a Master's degree in Genetics at the University of Oxford, England.

Dr. Batra earned her medical degree with honors from Harvard Medical School and a Master's degree from the Harvard School of Public Health. She completed her Internship, Residency, and Chief Residency in dermatology at Stanford University School of Medicine. She returned to Boston for fellowship training in Dermatologic, Laser, Cosmetic and Mohs Micrographic Surgery.

Dr. Batra is actively involved in clinical research and is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the USC Keck School of Medicine. Her studies have garnered the Young Investigator's Award from the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery as well as the Dermatologic Surgery Trainee Award from the Archives of Dermatology. Her research interests are in outcomes for nonmelanoma skin cancer, scar revision, and laser surgery.

With Dr. Batra joining our team, we are now not only offering the highest level of care in dermatology, but will also offer liposuction, blepharoplasty (eyelid lifting), and Mohs surgery (skin cancer removal).

COSMELAN DEPIGMENTATION TREATMENT

A new peel by Mesoestetic, the Cosmelan Depigmentation treatment combats brown spots while recovering the smoothness of the skin and bringing back clean, clear luminosity to blemished, pigmented areas.

This peel has an action mechanism based on the inhibition of tyrosinase, a basic enzyme in the melanin formation process. Several of the substances present in the Cosmelan formula act by blocking this enzyme, or by inverting the metabolic process of the transformation chain.

Originally developed in Spain, the Cosmelan Depigmentation treatment has a high safety margin and is effective on aging skin, acneic skin, and all ethnic skin types including African American, Latin American and Asian American.

SMOOTHBEAM LASER FOR ACNE AND ACNE SCARRING

The Smoothbeam laser treatment clears active acne by changing the function of overactive sebaceous glands-the root cause of acne.  This laser treatment is such a safe laser, that its commonly used around the eyes to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

The Smoothbeam laser works by targeting a wavelength of light that is absorbed by the water in your skin. As the laser penetrates into the skin, heat is generated in and around the sebaceous glands in the upper layers of your skin. The heating of the sebaceous glands creates a mild thermal injury that changes the structure and function of the glands. Shortly after the first treatment, you will start to see a reduction in the number of acne lesions on your skin.

There is little downtime associated with the Smoothbeam laser and most redness subsides in a few hours. As with most lasers, several treatments are required for optimum results.

ACTIVE FX RESURFACING LASER TREATMENT FOR TOTAL SKIN REJUVENATION

As we continue to mature, today’s population is becoming more and more image-conscious.  Eradicating or minimizing photo-damaged skin can be possible through laser treatment.  Skin resurfacing is an approach to skin rejuvenation where layers of skin are carefully removed to correct fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, smooth and tighten eyelid skin, soften imperfections in the skin, and repair discoloration.

Generally, patients seeking a resurfacing peel can anticipate several months of down-time.  However, the Active FX CO2 resurfacing treatment offers substantial results without the significant down-time of a normal resurfacing. Improvements to skin elasticity and tone will continue for months post-treatment as the laser stimulates collagen regeneration in the skin.

Laser resurfacing can reveal the fresh, healthy skin underneath all of the sun damage, aging, and scarring.  Active FX laser resurfacing will be available in our office soon.  Please call us to add your name to our waiting list or for more information.
