Born and raised in Brookline, Massachusetts, Philip B began his professional hair styling career at age 14 in a Copley Square hair salon in Boston. Captivated by the magic of creating and accentuating beauty through shaping, styling and coloring of hair, Philip saw each head of hair as a blank canvas on which he would develop his art, maximizing the natural beauty of each client.

Based on past observations and experiences, he created home remedies for his clients with dry scalp and hair. He constructed formulas in his kitchen and salon. He shopped for the finest and freshest ingredients at the local Farmer's Market and herb shops. He created potions and treatments that eased a flaking scalp and restored the most damaged hair. Philip B products are now sold around the globe. This internationally acclaimed line of products are available in our office.

Dr. Shamban Honored by A Place Called Home as a Woman of Achievement

On Wednesday June 6th, the entire staff of The Laser Institute of Dermatology attended an awards luncheon celebrating "Women of Achievement." Dr. Shamban was honored at the luncheon for her support of A Place Called Home's BE GIRLZ project-a program that inspires inner-city girls to discover the beauty and strength of their minds and spirits, and teach them skills that will empower them to lead more productive lifestyles. The program is designed to break the vicious cycle of gang activity and show these girls a way out by reaching within.

Other honorees included Michelle Rodriguez and Molly Sims. Dr. Shamban was eloquently introduced by dear friend Giselle Fernandez, president of Skinny Hippo Productions and co-president of F-Squared productions, where she develops film projects and television programs for both Spanish and English language networks.

PRESCRIPTION DESCRIPTION:
LOPROX SHAMPOO

Loprox shampoo is a prescription shampoo for adult sufferers of seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is a disease that causes redness and flaking of the skin. It is often found on the scalp. The disease causes the skin to become red, scaly, and flaky. It is caused by the overgrowth of fungus on the skin. The fungus uses sebum present on the scalp as a food source to cause infection. The fungus digests the sebum leaving behind free fatty acids that cause itching, redness, and scaling. Treating the dermatitis means reducing sebum and decreasing the fungus. Check with your provider to find out if Loprox is right for you.

A PLACE CALLED HOME

A Place Called Home (APCH) was started in 1993 by Founder and President Debrah Constance. It was created to give the gang affected youth of the impoverished inner-city a place where they could come after school, get a snack, do their homework, watch TV, play with their friends, and be with people that care about them - basic rights that all kids should have. From this fundamental concept, APCH grew at an exponential rate and now offers its' youth members many programs including an all-day school in collaboration with the Los Angeles Unified School District; computer lab; music; art; dance; tutoring and mentoring.

APCH began working with twelve inner-city children in a basement of a church. In September of 1996, with a growth in membership to 400, APCH moved to its present location -- a 10,000 square foot facility. This year marks our tenth anniversary in which we will proudly announce membership of over 4,000. APCH's membership is 62% Latino/a and 38% African-American youth, 8-20 years of age, both female and male.

In April of 1997 APCH was recognized at the Presidents' Summit as one of the "top 50 teaching examples" in the United States and in April, 2003 APCH was awarded with the President's America's Promise Award honoring it as one of the "safest places for children".

The vision of APCH is to revitalize the community of South Central Los Angeles in a continued effort to provide inner-city youth with a safe environment and a safe place to develop and grow.
